The most common thing beginners do is apologise. For their timing, for a missed turn, for taking up space.
From the outside, none of that reads as "bad dancer". It reads as "uncomfortable", which is the only thing anyone actually notices.
Miss the step and keep going. Nobody on a dance floor is counting your mistakes. They are thinking about their own.
